Yes. Onboarding is completely free — you'll answer a few questions about your allergies, conditions, medications, and goals, and you'll see a handful of sample recipes generated just for you. Unlocking ongoing personalised recipes, meal scanning, and tracking is where a subscription kicks in.

Three options: £6.99/month, £79/year (works out to £6.58/month — our most popular), or £149 one-time as a Founding Member for lifetime access. You can cancel anytime in Settings.

Very — but it's still an estimate. FreshPlate uses Edamam's food database and vision analysis to identify ingredients, portions, and nutrition from a photo. Every meal is fully editable: tap any ingredient or nutrient to adjust it, and the totals recalculate instantly. We'd rather be honest about estimates than pretend to be perfect.

Never. The camera estimates portions automatically, and when you search our database you pick from common serving sizes (cup, slice, piece, oz, g). If something looks off, one tap adjusts it.

During onboarding you'll select your current medications from a searchable list. FreshPlate applies known food-drug interaction rules so recipes that might interfere with your medication are either filtered out or clearly flagged. It's not medical advice — always check with your doctor — but it adds a layer of thoughtfulness nothing else does.

You can add as many allergens as you need — each with its own severity, from mild intolerance to EpiPen-level. For anything not on our list (low histamine, no nightshades, FODMAP, etc.), there's a custom restrictions field that flows through every recipe, scan, and swap suggestion.

Yes. Pregnancy and nursing adjust your energy needs automatically (+340 kcal pregnant, +500 kcal nursing on top of your baseline). Vegan, vegetarian, pescatarian, halal, kosher, keto, low-carb, Mediterranean — set it once at onboarding and every recommendation respects it.

Absolutely. Search our food database by name or brand, pick from the generated recipes, or log from your shopping list. The camera is the fastest way to track, but nothing is locked behind it.

FreshPlate is iOS-only right now. We're focused on getting the iPhone and Apple Health experience right before expanding. An Android version may come later — if you'd like to be notified, keep an eye on the App Store listing.

Your onboarding data (allergies, conditions, medications, goals) is stored against your account and used only to personalise your experience. We don't sell your data. You can sign out at any time and your data is preserved so you can pick up where you left off — or request full deletion whenever you want.

No. FreshPlate is a nutrition planning tool, not a medical device. We surface food-drug interactions, allergen checks, and condition-aware suggestions to help you eat more thoughtfully — but always consult your doctor, dietitian, or pharmacist for medical decisions.
